Hi Everyone!
I’m Donna Galvan, owner of Donna’s Quilting Respite!
Welcome to my page! My goal with this venture is to help people to overcome stress and worries in their own life, through the discovery of their own talents and creativity. As I cared for my mother who had Alzheimer’s for many years, I discovered that quilting helped me to channel the stress and sadness of the gradual loss, into new and beautiful things that I could create. Creating colorful quilts and textiles brought me joy and continues to do so! Now, I want to share that happiness with everyone that wants to learn. I want everyone to feel what I felt when I learned to channel stress and worries into creativity. I have a deep and heartfelt appreciation for all the teachers and instructors from all over the world who taught me over the years, and contributed to my understanding of this art form. Thank you, all of you, for everything you taught me! I will always be grateful.
I’m a Medical Doctor with many years of field experience, and the owner of a commercial contracting company for over 30 years. When my mother had developed Alzheimer’s disease in the early 2000s, I cared for her until the day of her passing in 2019. During this time, quilting served as a therapeutic creative outlet for me, and because of this, I was inspired to teach quilting to anyone who finds joy in it! I have attended quilting classes in multiple locations all over the world over 14 years in the following places: The International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX 12 consecutive years, all 3 It’s a Stitch locations in Houston, TX, Quilt Camp in La Grange, TX, and Sew Vac City for more than 4 years with every instructor. Quilting classes in Tokyo and Osaka as well. I am also an advanced certified instructor by Laura Heine in collage and am an instructor of “By Annie” patterns and backpacks. Now, I’m applying the knowledge I gained from my years of experience to the teaching of new students to the world of quilting. I own and have experience with a multitude of Bernina, Brother, Juki, and Janome machines. I live in College Station, TX and have been married for 39 years with 3 children who have all graduated from Texas A&M and 2 grandchildren (so far)!
I am excited to join you on your quilting journey!
God Bless!
