Class Details

📍 Location: Donna’s Quilting Respite (3008 Barron Rd, College Station, TX 77845)

📅 Schedule: Classes available by request- flexible to fit your calendar

⏰ Duration: One-Day Class (10:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

👥 Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate (no prior experience required)

💲 Cost: $90 USD (Includes Donna’s instruction only; bring your own materials and tools or purchase from our store.)

  • What You’ll Learn:

    • Understand fabric value and why it matters more than color
    • Learn Laura Heine’s signature raw-edge collage technique
    • Properly apply and manage Steam-A-Seam 2
    • Practice precise fussy cutting for depth and detail
    • Master layering and placement to create dimension
    • Build a balanced floral composition
    • Learn trimming and stitching techniques for clean, professional results

    Donna will demonstrate each step and provide guidance as you build your Flower Shop block.

  • Supplies Needed:

    Supplies are not included with the class fee.

    All required supplies can be purchased in-store prior to the class.

    • Approximately 3 yards of 24" wide Steam-a-Seam 2
    • 36" x 48" collage foundation

    Tools:

    • Fabric scissors (small, sharp pair recommended; serrated preferred)
    • Rotary cutter
    • Martelli tweezers (helpful for working with small fabric pieces)
    • #2 pencil
    • Laura Heine Silicone Collage Mat
    • Laura Heine Collage Stiletto
    • Laura Heine SewTites (for collage work)

    These tools are a one-time investment. Once you own them, future collage projects will only require purchasing the pattern, kit, and Steam-a-Seam 2.

Do I need prior sewing or collage experience?

No experience needed! This class is designed for beginners and intermediate sewists. Donna will guide you through every step of Laura Heine’s collage process.

Are the pattern and materials included in the class fee?

No. The class fee covers Donna’s professional instruction only. Patterns and materials can be purchased in-store or brought from home.

Will I finish my collage in one day?

Yes! Most students complete their collage within the one-day session. If you need extra time, you can return at $25 USD per hour to finish.

Do I need a sewing machine?

A sewing machine isn’t required for the collage process. If you want to quilt or bind your finished piece, machines are available for rent at $10 per day.

Can I book with a friend?

Definitely - classes are even more fun with friends! Group bookings are available.
