Class Details

📍 Location: Donna’s Quilting Respite (3008 Barron Rd, College Station, TX 77845)

📅 Schedule: Classes available by request- flexible to fit your calendar

Duration: One-Day Class (10:00 AM – 6:00 PM)

👥 Skill Level: Beginner–Intermediate (No prior collage experience required, Donna will guide you step-by-step.)

💲 Cost: $120 USD (Includes Donna’s professional instruction only. Bring your own materials and tools, or purchase them from our store before class.)

  • What You’ll Learn:

    • Fabric Collage Techniques: Learn Laura Heine’s signature layering and fusing methods to build your Christmas tree design.
    • Fusing & Composition: Proper use of Steam-A-Seam 2 and tips for arranging fabrics to achieve balance and depth.
    • Quilting & Finishing: Learn to quilt, bind, and back your piece to turn your collage into a heat-safe, decorative pot holder.
    • Creative Confidence: Tips for applying collage techniques to other holiday or seasonal projects.
  • Materials Needed:

    1. Pattern

    • Laura Heine Whatevers! #30 – Christmas Tree

    A Whatevers #30 Kit (with curated fabrics, foundation & Steam-A-Seam starter cuts) is available for purchase.

    2. Foundation & Background

    • Pattern Ease or Pellon 830½ yard
    • Background fabric¼ yard

    Kits may include these items depending on the version.

    3. Adhesives

    • Steam-A-Seam 2 (NOT Lite) — 2–3 yards

    It’s always better to bring a little extra, especially for smaller detailed pieces.

    4. Fabrics

    Bring a mix of smalls: scraps, fat eighths, tiny prints, and motifs for fussy cutting.

    • Small leaf prints, florals, textures
    • Pops of red, gold, and festive prints for ornaments

    7. Pot-Holder Finishing Supplies

    • Bring a sewing machine in good working condition

Do I need prior sewing or collage experience?

No experience necessary! Donna will walk you through every step, making this a great project for beginners and collage enthusiasts alike.

Are materials and patterns included in the class fee?

No. The $120 USD fee covers Donna’s professional instruction only. Patterns and materials can be brought from home or purchased in-store.

Will I finish my project in one day?

Yes! Most students complete their collage pot holder during the one-day session. If you need more time, you can return at $25 USD per hour to finish.

Can I choose my own fabrics?

Definitely! Bring your own festive fabrics or select from our store’s holiday collection. Donna will help you coordinate prints and colors for a cohesive, eye-catching result.

I don’t have a sewing machine. Can I still join?

Absolutely! Sewing machines are available for rent at $10 USD per hour.
